I could find no enlistment record for Henry L. Knoll on the National Archives and Records Administration website, but the commemorative Warpath book lists his hometown as Oakland, California.

Captain Knoll was one of the original cadre arriving in New Guinea with the 501st Bomb Squadron, 345th Bomb Group. He is listed as pilot on thirty-two missions from June 1943 through February 1944.
