The 345th Bomb Group began their combat history by flying missions from several of the airfields located near Port Moresby, New Guinea. These missions were flown beginning in June 1943 and continued through December 1943.
While their earliest missions were supply drops and convoy escorts, the 345th was soon tasked with bomb runs on enemy strongholds and participated in attacks against enemy convoys.
This map does not display every mission flown, but is instead intended to show the wide area covered by the 345th while they operated out of Port Moresby, and to provide locations for many of the most commonly mentioned towns and villages. Missions staged from other airfields are not shown on this map.
