This map shows the approximate crash locations for 118 B-25 airplanes of the 345th Bomb Group during the period 1943 through 1945. Not all crashes were observed and the crash location in those instances is the last sighted or last radio transmission coordinates. In cases where the airplane was last seen at takeoff and no further contact was made, the loss location was placed arbitrarily along the projected flight path. The crash location coordinates for unwitnessed losses are less accurate and in several cases the location information was so minimal that the displayed location is no more than an an educated guess.
Not all crashes resulted in fatalities. Post-crash crew status was taken from relevant Missing Air Crew Reports (MACR’s), mission narrative reports and in some cases, from post-war biographies. Crew recovery status was checked against the November 2019 version of the DPAA WW2 Not Recovered list and cross checked with grave site data found on the findagrave website.
Popups for each map dot show data relevant to the crash and include data sources. Crash site coordinates are displayed in the WGS-84 coordinate system and were derived from maps included in the narrative mission reports and MACR’s.
